Should Catholic stores play Christian radio programming?

Recently, I entered a nationally-affiliated Catholic-run thrift shop to discover Christian radio programming broadcast on the store sound system and literature from the same radio station displayed on a counter near the entrance. :tsktsk: Most of the other stores I've visited usually tune in a local secular station on the store radio, so this seemed rather odd to me. What should I say to the store staff?

Are the luminous mysteries legitimate? Revisited.

Being that I am a new Catholic, the addition of the Luminous Mysteries to the Rosary was not something that rose to my attention when it happened. Today I read an article at Seattle Catholic's website that was critical of Pope John Paul II's suggestion that the faithful add the five mysteries to their practice of Marian devotion. The article offered some persuasive points, among them that having 20 mysteries takes the Rosary out of line with the structure of the Psalter of David and that it makes Mary's request at Fatima that we pray a third of the Rosary each day untenable. My question is twofold: does the Seattle Catholic publication have an inordinate history of taking dissenting views from those of the Holy See? And what is the official Catholic view about the legitimacy of the Luminous Mysteries?

What are the marked theological differences between Byzantine Catholic and Roman Rite?

The ecclesiastical and liturgical differences are pretty clear/obvious. My question is in terms of theology and impact on catechesis and teachings, such as vocation, marriage, confession, TOB, divorce, women in Divine Liturg, the breviery, etc. I searched the forums and could not find anything substantial, only that the two are "in communion" of which I was well aware. Based on your answer to the above, a follow-on is likely: Do the Byzantine Catholics submit to the Magisterium and the Roman Catechesis?

What do you do when your priest is permanently angry with you?

I'm 17, a girl, and have been attending my Catholic church for a month. I have known the Catholic priest since last October now. We have had a lot of disagreements and arguments. If I wish to speak to him, he doesn't want to and refuses to talk to me, no matter what it's about. He has shouted at me, raised his voice at me, pointed his finger at me, and said things about me. Once he even threatened to call the police just because I wanted five minutes to talk to him about an incident in my old parish that he doesn't want to get involved with. (Yes, really.) On Sunday he shouted at me, literally said "You are a very horrible person," told me I'm not a Catholic, and that he's not my priest, and never will be. He told me I'd made him very angry. I said I was sorry -- even though I don't know what I did wrong -- but he then said "It's too late for sorry now." What the...?! Doesn't that mean I'm not forgiven? It could be that he doesn't want to speak to me because I'm a girl. (He's...

He wonders why Herod, Ciaphas, Annas, and others are not included in this. I have no explanation. Can you provide one for me please

Can I put my disabled daughter on birth control?

Is it a sin for me to have my daughter under birth control? She is mentally and physically handicapped. She is unable to tell someone no, and if she were to get pregnant, it would kill her.

Is there such a thing as Catholic etiquette?

In reading through the forums lately, I've noticed questions more about personal behavior in church (such as nursing babies, talking on the phone, cutting in line for the confessional) than about the rules for the Mass or other aspects of Church life. The personal behavior questions remind me more of questions posed to an etiquette expert, and so I was wondering if there is such a thing as Catholic etiquette. If so, where do you go to get answers to those kind of questions?

Can the Nativity story be written as a comedy?

I have a question about Christmas plays. My family and I converted to Catholicism from Protestantism about three years ago, and my 15-year-old sister has written a play about the Nativity that she wants to perform for Christmas. I realize that doing a play about the Nativity would be fine, but she has written this play as a comedy. She has funny lines that the wise men say when they go before Herod. I'm sure she has not made fun of our Lady or Jesus, but some of the shepherds might say something funny as they are traveling to visit the Christ child. My question is: Is this sacrilegious? Is it wrong to present the Nativity in any way other than what the Bible says?
